Marks and Labels/StampsIn February 2005, the registrar was tightening up the bolts that hold the part of the urns together, using ethafome in place of the original worn leather washers, and found a mark on the porcelain: "M. Imp.le / de Sevres" (Manufacture Imperiale de Sevres). According to Chaffers (Marks and monograms on European and Oriental Pottery and Porcelain), page 578, this mark was used 1804-1809 under Napoleon. In July 2017 both vases were disassembled again, and the second vase shows a partial mark identical to the full printed red mark. Moreover, One vase has 13 incised into the porcelain of the foot, which matches incised numbers on the bronze pedestal and the ormolu angel mounts; the second fase has the number 14 in these same places.ProvenanceOwned by the Duke of Hamilton; came from the Hamilton Palace sale in England in 1882; acquired at that sale by the donor's father-in-law.Exhibition History"100 Masterpieces of Art Pottery, 1880-1930", Newark Museum, Newark, New Jersey (September 23, 2009 - January 10, 2010).
