ProvenanceArmchair in the modern style Designed by George Washington Maher, Chicago, For "Rockledge," Homer, Minnesota, 1912 Purchase 1999 Membership Endowment Fund and gift of Mr. and Mrs. A. Perry Morgan, Jr., by exchange 99.13 Chair from a great house built in 1912 in Homer, MN, now destroyed. Maher designed the house and all of the furnishings. This chair is from the dining room, one of two armchairs and a set of sidechairs. Now, four of the dining chairs are known. The two sidechairs that were with our armchair when I bought it from Toomey, were purchased at auction by Beth Cathers (who sold us our Rohlfs table). She has one for sale still, but the other is now in the collection of Joe Cunningham and Bruce Barnes, who live in the Dakota (1 West 72nd Street, 6th Floor, apt. 63). The matching armchair from the dining room is in the Minneapolis Institute, and the Metropolitan owns one of the large lounge chairs from the Rockledge reception room.
