Artist title
Triple Gong
Remarks
In October 2008, we received a letter from the Calder Foundation informing us that the correct title for our Alexander Calder mobile is not Big Red, Yellow, Blue Gong, but is Triple Gong. After many months of conversation with the Foundation and follow-up research in both their archives and our own, I [and Beth Venn, Senior Curator of American Art] believe the Foundation is correct. Therefore we should from here out use the title Triple Gong for the Calder mobile. See object file for documentation. [Mary Kate Ohare]

Our online collection is a work in progress. It reflects only a portion of the entire collection and the ongoing work conducted over the course of our 115-year history. The objects presented may contain offensive racial, gender, sexual, religious, and other language and imagery, and their records may contain offensive and discriminatory language, or reflect outdated ideas and analyses.
