Inscriptionson one side: "1876 / October thirty-first / 1916" acid-etched raised script; on second side: "RJH" in script, acid-etched raised lettering with engraved decoration; on third side, in acid-etched raised script lettering with engraved ornament: "Presented to / Robert J. Hillas / by the / Manager and General Agents / of / The Fidelity and Casualty Company / in honor of his fortieth anniversary"Marks and Labels/Stampson underside of base, near edge: "Martele" in gothic letters with acute accent over final e, above spread eagle mark, above three pseudo hallmarks consisting of a LION in an octagon, next to an ANCHOR in a shield, next to a gothic G in an octagon; all above ".9584" (the silver quality, higher than sterling); above three block initials "JME" which is the making code number (see remarks)ProvenanceRobert James Hillas was the president of Fidelity and Casualty Co., which was absorbed by Continental Insurance Co of Newark.
