Marks and Labels/StampsBox: stamped in gold on inside lide on white satin lining: "TIFFANY & CO./NEW YORK/AVE. DE L'OPERA: 65BIS/GRAND PRIX/EXPOSITION UNIVERSELLE/1878'ProvenanceMrs. Herbert Berman; 12/14/2000; Herb Berman called, and I asked him about the set of Japanesque spoons in the box. The story is that they were a wedding gift in 1948 to Herb and his first wife. They came from his aunt, Anna Winkelman, (his mother's substantially older sister) who lived in England. When the family emigrated from Eastern Europe, she stayed in England, and Herb's mother came to the U.S.A. He had seen her during WWII during a furlough in England. One of those weird wedding gifts that they didn't know what to do with. They never used them, to Herb's recollection.Exhibition History"Style and Status in Sterling: American Silver", Newark Museum, Newark, New Jersey (May 2017 - March 14, 2020), Parts 3,5,6,7,9 and 10
